A 77-year-old woman visiting a Kangaroo Express store received an award and a standing ovation from the Jacksonville police for helping police catch an accused serial robber with her quick thinking. Gladys Gehrig was confronted by a man who pointed a gun at the clerk and her and demanded money. The 77-year old said she sprayed the man with pepper spray in the face she’d carried on her key chain for years but never used.
“It was instinct,” Gehrig said. “I think, ‘I gotta do something.’ Nothing else.”
“I wasn’t thinking about me. I was thinking of (the clerk) and if she had a family, and that’s what I was thinking of,” Gehrig said.
The man later identified by police as Torre Harris stumbled out of the store and was then apprehended a short time later by police after he robbed another Kangaroo Express store. Harris, 20, remains in jail charged with 11 counts of armed robbery, one count of aggravated assault, purse snatching and two counts of drug possession.
Gehrig said she still carries pepper spray, just in case.

Due to the economic downturn, crime has increased. With the recession looming, some have speculated that the bad economy may be reflected in higher crime rates. With this theft, burglary, and assaults have increased in a short period of time.
We are all susceptible to crime and must take the needed measures to prevent and protect. If your state or city does not allow for a Taser or Stun Gun get pepper spray, personal alarm, and or an instructional video to learn the latest up-to-date self defense techniques. Whatever it is, it is time to take action.

Welcome to Logical Defense’s first installment of our blog. We look forward to bringing security news and advice to our many new and loyal readers. The initial start of our company was born out of the need to both educate consumers with security tips; but to also equip each law abiding citizen with the tools to protect themselves, their families, and their properties, with high quality self defense products.
My first experience with a self defense product was when my husband purchased a Stun Gun for me. I was constantly traveling and just like most concerned husbands there is always the fear of the wife getting attacked, and the husband not being able to protect. What would she do? Who would help her if she is alone? All of these questions go racing through one’s mind when the one you love most is out alone. Well like some women, I was a little intimidated by the idea of carrying a gun, but a Stun Gun was right up my alley. Matter of fact, I still have the original Stun Gun that I purchased years ago. It’s like my little reminder of my first experience with a Self Defense product and partially my reasoning for starting this company – and the reason why I wanted to share how I felt protected through knowing that I have more than my bare hands and my common sense to protect and defend myself in the event of an attack.
Feeling empowered and knowing that I can too share these fine products to many of you is what I desire to do.
